University of Helsinki, Bryophytes (H)

The bryophyte collections at University of Helsinki (H) contain approximately 710 000 specimens, of which ca. 100 000 have been databased so far. H houses specimens from all continents, but most well-represented regions include the Nordic countries, China, Papua New Guinea, Patagonia, and other regions of the Southern Hemisphere. The most significant collections are the historical specimens of the Herbarium of V. F. Brotherus (H-BR, 83 000 specimens) and the Herbarium of S. O. Lindberg (H-SOL, 48 000 specimens). The number of type specimens is estimated at around 20 000. Notable collectors include V. F. Brotherus, H. Buch, J. J. Dillenius, P. Isoviita, T. Koponen, M. J. Kotilainen, H. Lindberg, S. O. Lindberg, H. Roivainen, and R. Tuomikoski.
