Only known from the type locality, Mt Mou, New Caledonia.
Notes: Only known from the type slides, but not available for study. Hattori (1984a, 1986a) noted that after the examination of almost 50 specimens of what he assigned to F. chevalieri that he could not find any material that could be clearly identified as F. caledonica, this included collections from the type locality. Hattori (1984a) postulated that F. caledonica was conspecific with F. chevalieri suggesting that the former was possibly an extreme form. However, Schuster (1970) carefully illustrated and described the leaf lobes each elevated as a blunt papilla or tubercle. In New Zealand, all of the F. chevalieri specimens have smooth dorsal lobe surfaces. More intensive collections from New Caledonia and especially the type locality are required in order to reassess Hattori’s hypothesis and thus resolve the relationship between the two species.
