Plants small, 0.8-2.0 mm wide, olive green to brownish, intercalary branching, distant to slightly imbricate obovate obdeltoid 1.2-1.4x longer than wide lobes fragmenting truncatre to truncate-rounded (ignoring fragmentation) not or very shortly decurrent not ampliate Normal leaf form is difficult to describe because mature leaves undergo fragmentation. Some leaves deeply 2-3 lobed, leaves strongly fragmenting, part of the leaf lamina and/or teeth broken off, especially the upper part of the leaves isodiametric to elongate to 20-25 µm wide in midleaf bulging to large smooth 9-14 per cell, more or less fusiform to ellipsoidal, (from RMS 1980) maybe evaluate narrowly ovoid in dorsal view (RMS 1980) Spinose-dentate leaf fragmentation
