United States, California, Monterey, Big Sur Redwood State Park and its immediate vicinity. Altitude varies from near sea level along Big Sur River to 3369 feet at the summit of Mt. Manuel.
Redwoods predominate in the canyons but yield to Quercus species along the ridges; above 500 feet altitude the predominant vegetation is chaparral, although Pinus occurs on the northern slopes.
